Tips on Taking Photos

When you hike, you are treated to some truly stunning sights. You barely go a day without seeing something that takes your breath away. It is one of the joys of hiking and is part of the reason so many people enjoy this pastime so much.

When you see something beautiful, your natural reaction is to get your camera out. You want to capture the moment so that you can relive it when you get home.

Plus, of course, you want to share these wonderful sights with your friends and family. Or, better still have them turned into beautiful canvas prints that you can then use to decorate your home or give as gifts.

Unfortunately sometimes when you get home you find that your photos are just not that good. Sometimes, you just do not seem to have captured the true majesty of the scene.

When your photos fail to stimulate your memory to the point where you can see the scene again in your mind´s eye, it feels pretty disappointing.

However, if you follow these simple tips on making photos, you can reduce the chances of that happening.

Take your time

When you want to capture a particular scene, pause. Get your camera out and set it up properly. Make sure that the lens is clean, get the focus right, frame your shot and take several photos of the same scene. It is a good idea to vary the angle a little and take the shot from slightly different distances.

In between each position change, quickly flick through the shots you have already taken. This will help you to see what you need to do differently. That way your next set of shots will be better than the ones you took before. Plus, you will know for sure that you have got the photos you really wanted.

Use a Tripod

Carrying a tripod may seem like a pain, but it really does make it easier to get good photos. There are plenty of really lightweight, compact tripods on the market that you can carry under your backpack using the straps provided. Once you get used to it carrying one, it really is not too much of a pain.

Sort through your images within 24 hours

Go through your images as soon as you can. Delete any that are no good straightaway. When you are shooting at a high resolution you need to be ruthless, you have to free up storage space.

Going through your photos within 24 hours ensures that the scene you were trying to capture is still relatively fresh in your mind. This helps you to recognize the really good shots and ensure that they are the ones that you save.

Always take high-resolution photos

Whenever you can, take high-resolution shots. They really do look better. Plus, when you get home you can do a lot more with them. It is easier to edit a high-resolution photo and get good results. Bear in mind that this means you will need to have plenty of battery power and storage room.

We hope these tips on taking photos will help you!
